Roker Beach ranked as one of Twinkls most child-friendly beaches in Britain!
A recent study led by Twinkl Educational Publishing announced Roker Beach as the most child-friendly summer destination in England based on different factors.
New research from Twinkl found that Roker Beach was the one of the most child-friendly beaches for families in England, as featured in Twinkl’s Family Day at the Beach and Out and About summer initiatives.
Twinkl looked at six beaches in England and based on the information found, looked at baby-changing facilities, toilets accessibility, lifeguards, lost child services and first aid services.
Roker Beach is one of Twinkl’s Top Child-Friendly Beaches!
First: Filey
Filey has a strong fishing community and beach goers can often watch the fishermen busy at work. Filey beach is located between an RSPB nature reserve and Filey Brigg. In low tide, rock pools are great to explore and, sometimes, even the odd shipwreck can be seen.
There’s a seafront promenade, with plenty of shops nearby. Beach huts can be hired, which are great for families wanting to leave their stuff in a safe place. There’s first aid and lost child services, which can be accessed via the lifeguards. Filey Beach has also won TripAdvisor Travellers Choices 2019 and The Sunday Times 2018 Best Beach in Britain. Putting all this together has made Filey Beach our top child-friendly beach for 2022.
Second: Bournemouth Beach
Having come second, Bournemouth Beach has twice won TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Award in 2018 and 2019, as well as the Seaside Award 2019. It’s a sandy beach that is close to the town centre and lower gardens. There are plenty of shops and arcades nearby to keep the family occupied, and wheelchair hire is available on a first come, first service basis. Bournemouth Beach is most definitely worthy of second place.
Joint Third: Gyllyingvase Beach
Around a 10-minute walk from Falmouth, this beach won a Blur Flag Award in 2019 for being clean, safe, and having the highest quality of water. At low tide there are many rock pools to explore, and Pendennis Castle can be seen across the sea, from the beach. There are plenty of beach activities organised throughout the summer for visitors to participate in.
Joint Third: St Bee’s Beach
St Bee’s Beach has won an ENCAMS Seaside Award for cleanliness and is the only heritage coast between Scotland and Wales. Its RSPB bird reserve is also the only cliff-nesting seabird colony in North West England. The beach, itself, is full of sand, and has a children’s play area, promenade and rock pools, which can be seen at low tide. There is also red sand that can be seen at this time, which is sure to delight young children.
Joint Fourth: Croyde Beach
With seawater that’s considered good quality is Croyde Beach. It’s a flat sandy beach with dunes and a rivulet running in the middle of it. There’s a beach shop and café at the north end and another café at the south end. It’s an ideal place for kite flying and rock pooling. It’s also known for being a popular surfing destination.
Joint Fourth: Roker Beach
Roker Beach is a sandy beach that has a promenade that’s got plenty of shops where refreshments can be bought. You can access the beach’s pier and lighthouse by it, too. There are plenty of water-based activities that are done there, and if people are lucky, they may even get to see dolphins swimming in the sea at certain times during the year.
