(ad) Local Mumbler Clare visited @stockeldpark for their Christmas Adventure, it looks fantastic!
Here’s a little snippet, with a full review on the website.
‘We had a wonderful fun-packed day...it’s usually hard to entertain both kids, but this event had it all! The Christmas atmosphere was amazing...the Grotto experience was lovely...the lights and music were magical.’
It’s always one of our favourite days out & well worth making a special trip, there’s loads to see & do with a range of ticket options & activities, including: -Santa’s Grotto. -Stockeld Theatre show. -Ice Skating. -Winter Illuminations. -Illuminated Snowflake Maze. -Outdoor parks & indoor Playhive.
Always love seeing #sunderlandfestivaloflight 💜 Amazing value at £11 for a family ticket, the final few nights are this Thurs-Sat, it’s well worth a look if you haven’t been along yet.
There’s a good mix of installations and a program of free events, with different characters & shows. Our favourites were the serene woodland glade and huge ‘changing seasons’ projection. There`s just the right touch of Christmas lights to help start off the festive feels, and we caught a fab fire show & some friendly fairies.
It’s an easy accessible walk, and you can make more of a night of it with the fairground rides & food stalls (although we took light-up windmills from home to save any pestering over new flashy toys!).
We’ve been trying out a few different swimming pools just for a change from our usual favourite Haven Point #southshields. Have found some great new places, but gobsmacked that people need a sign to be told that changing cubicles aren’t toilets! #eew #whatiswrongwithpeople
Ad| Last chance to catch the Halloween Daytime Garden Trail @ushawdurham, for a lovely autumn walk with a creepy twist.
We had loads of fun discovering all of the spooky surprises and finding clues to solve the puzzle. It’s an easy short walk and the autumn colours in the garden are gorgeous. There’s a lovely cafe to warm up then we explored the historic house and chapels to find more clues and cuddly animals.
The Daytime Garden Trail and indoor Awesome Autumn Animals Trail finish Sun 5th Nov, and are included in regular admission with no booking needed.
It’s great value to visit, especially with an annual pass which includes other fab family activities throughout the year.

Our visit to NERD Fright Fest was the perfect way to kick off the spooky season🧡🖤
Really well organised with loads going on for all ages, our favourites were: 🦖 walking dinosaurs & magic show for little horrors. 🎮 gaming galore - modern, retro & VR headset! 👻 props & special guests from movies, tv & comic books. 🎸 retro tunes from the fab @linaandthelions 💙#strangerthingsfans 🧟 creepy costumes & Cosplay competition with prizes to be won. 💀 loads of spooky stalls, geeky merch & delicious treats. 🐲 Pokémon TCG, freebies & chat over binders & best stats.
Having been a few times now, one thing that always comes across is the fantastic sociable atmosphere. We found ourselves playing a whole load of multiplayer Mario Kart and joining up with other families, with the kids chatting away like new besties. All ages & abilities welcome, with no judgement when I couldn’t get off the start line (I’m blaming the fancy remote!).
The only downside was my son’s too cool now for the Dance Machine (sooo many memories from student days!), & I was shocking at Guitar Hero but the fab team from @the_ctrl_pad were incredibly patient!
Always a great day out for gamers big & small, look out for the next NERD Fest event & check out @northeastretroden in Felling.
