As part of the Heritage Open Days program, meet Julius Verax – a Roman Soldier who lived at Arbeia, South Shields’ Roman Fort which was an important part of the history of Roman Britain. Julius will be talking to visitors, you might even get a selfie with him. Explore inside the full-scale reconstructed Roman buildings including the West Gate, Commanding Officer’s house and a soldier’s barrack block, and see displays of collections from in and around Arbeia.
