Seven Stories is dedicated to the art of children’s books and the creativity they inspire. The National Centre for Children’s Books is based in a seven-storey listed building in the popular Ouseburn area of Newcastle. Make sure to explore the free exhibitions on level 4 when you visit, which include Enid Blyton’s typewriter, The Gruffalo, Mog, and many more brilliant books and characters, as well as the bookshop and coffee shop.
Once There Was Magic

In this interactive hour-long experience, you and your bubble will be guided through the Wild Woods (from the fabulous Cressida Cowell Wizards of Once novels) by one of our Story Catcher wizards; journeying through ‘fiery’ portals featuring magical worlds from some of our most loved authors including Narnia, Discworld and Hogwarts. Each ‘world’ includes original artwork, manuscripts and other glimpses into the making of these stories, as well as a fun puzzle and special effects for the whole family. Solve the challenge and you can move on to the next portal with your wizarding guide…

The Lost Spells is a moving, joyful treasure of a book by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris, creators of The Lost Words. Our immersive exhibition experience invites visitors to step into nature, witnessing its power to amaze, console and bring joy.

This is running as part of “Early Years Mondays” and is one of a series of workshops that will alternate with each other. The themes in this series are; Space, Jungle, and Under the Sea. Each offer will run every third Monday in term time only. Our Super Story Explorer offer is designed to be shared by both child and their adult, with the adult supporting the interaction facilitated by the Story Catcher. There are a range of activities to stimulate imaginative play that meet the needs and stages of development of the participants. With two picture books at the heart of the offer, children and their adults explore the worlds of Outer Space, Under the Sea, or the Jungle.

Celebrate Lewis Carroll’s iconic book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with delicious children’s afternoon tea. Tuck into scrumptious sandwiches, scone and clotted cream, frosted red velvet cupcakes, Queen of Hearts mini jam tarts and melt in your mouth “Eat me” shortbread biscuits. To finish off the tea party you’ll be joined by a Wonderland guest for some storytime fun and games. You won’t want to be late for this important date!

Our Story Catchers have snuck up into the Attic and found an unusual suitcase that holds a lifetime of memories and adventure, and they want you to share the journey. This half term, join us for an interactive story time theatre performance inspired by the life and stories of Judith Kerr.
