We had a lovely day out at Chase Park in Whickham this week. It was our first visit post-lockdown, and our first time since the BRAND NEW toddler play equipment was installed recently, so I thought I’d share a sneak peak of what it looks like.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with Chase Park, it’s well worth a visit. The park underwent a major refurbishment which was completed in Sep 2017, after receiving a lottery award of almost £1m. The park benefited from new play and gym equipment, skateboard park, tennis courts, table tennis, flowerbeds and refurbished windmill. The local community group Friends of Chase Park is very active (under normal circumstances), and there has been a packed programme of events in the past, including sports tasters, outdoor cinema, family fun days, dog show, gardening projects, walks and talks & more. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for news and future events.
Work began on installing the new toddler play area a few weeks ago on the 17th August 2020, and it looks like a big hit.
The new toddler area has a climbing frame with slide, fireman’s pole, cargo net, telescope and steering wheel. There’s also a new seesaw and a small spinning chair. The whole playground has loads of space and plenty of different play equipment for all ages.
The tap on the water feature is currently disabled (I’m assuming for Covid-19 health and safety reasons), but look out for it in future as it’s great fun turning the Archimedes screw to bring the water up to the raised troughs. There’s plenty of great bits and pieces for older children, with two climbing frames and slides, an obstacle course of balancing logs, a zip line, and plenty of swings including a nest swing and big shuggy swing (plus toddler swings). As you walk around the gardens there are also lovely carved wooden and metal sculptures, which are fun for kids to spot.
