After our first trip to Stockeld Park during Talking Animals Week we were really looking forward to going back, there’s just so much to do and not enough time in the day – it turns out we felt exactly the same after visiting again for their Easter Adventure!
On our first visit we took our time on the Enchanted Forest walk and playgrounds, finishing with the maze and panto. There’s a free Stockeld Park app with a useful map to find your way around if you haven’t been before. For the Easter Adventure we focussed on the central area, which has a cluster of loads of brilliant activities. We got thoroughly lost in the Maze then moved on to Farmer Foster’s Playground which is perfect for younger kids (my two boys loved rolling down the Teletubbies-style hills!), then on to the jumping pillow, go karts, giant inflatable slide and inflatable obstacle course.
By the time we started the Enchanted Forest Walk and adventure playgrounds it was late in the day and fairly quiet and peaceful. There are four main playgrounds along the circular route and a lake with dodgem-style Buccaneer Boats. It’s quite a long walk for little legs but there are constant surprises and stops along the way. It’s buggy friendly and there’s a takeaway cafe and toilets just over half way round.
We had a fab time on the Buccaneer Boats (a small extra charge applies). The staff are really friendly and took the extra time to talk to the kids, which my kids loved getting the chance to natter a bit. The controls were simple enough for my 4 year old to manage with only the odd bit of damage control. There was more spinning than I expected until we got the hang of it, it’s like a cross between a waltzer and a dodgem car! The Easter Adventure included a trail to spot the baby bunnies and giant eggs – our favourite was the Harry Potter egg – and we claimed a chocolate treat at the end for finding all the bunnies.
There’s lots of permanent features the kids enjoyed seeing again, with themed slides, musical instruments, mythical creatures (we made sure to tiptoe past the dragon and ogre!) and a pretty fairy village.
The four adventure playgrounds have different themes and equipment, so it’s lots of fun to try them all out (or it would be easy to skip certain ones if need be depending on preference and age).
There was also an Easter panto, based around Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We didn’t manage to fit it in this time but all loved the farmyard panto last time (and it’s a really good chance to sit down and relax for half an hour!).
Stockeld Park’s upcoming Spring Adventure will run from 28th May–5th June 2022 with lots to look forward to, including the Stockeld Circus! Find out more and book HERE.
